Blogging isn’t just for angst-filled teens anymore, but has grown into a powerful marketing tool for businesses both big and small. This book shows the reader a step-by-step way to enter the world of blogging—I set up two blogs within minutes, and it was very easy. Each step is explained and reinforced with a screen shot to make it extremely simple to follow. There are many interviews with successful bloggers who offer tips for anyone wishing to start a blog, along with numerous resources the blogger, or the would-be blogger, can use to make better, more successful blogs. This book is a valuable tool for those individuals or companies who are ready to take the next step into the cyberworld.

Book review on ‘The Secret of Blogging:how to Promote and Market your Business, Organisation or Cause with free blogs.’
The author Lieutenant Commander Bruce C. Brown, of the US Coast Guard, has written other books ‘How to use the internet to advertise , promote and market your business or Website with little or no money’, for which he obtained the 2007 Independent Publisher Award and ‘The Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Marketing: Pay Per Click Advertising Secrets Revealed’ , winner of The USA Best Books 2007 Award apart from this book. The new book has been published in 2007 by the Atlanta Publishing House in Florida. Bruce has dedicated it to ‘the men and women of the United States Armed Forces whose courage, bravery, and dedication deliver the freedom that is taken for granted every day.’ and has quoted General Douglas MacArthur and Ronald Reagan in the dedication page.

He has written this book for those people who have not set up blogs but would like to with the aim of promoting businesses or mere interaction with other people. He takes us through the various steps for blogging. Karen Jackie who is the Chief Architect of ContentRobot who writes the foreword believes launching a blog is easy and beneficial. Cost is not high and plenty of resources are available.

Bruce explains in fair detail how you could project yourself and your business, be indexed highly in major search engines, be considered as an expert and develop an online community with your blog. Improved communications will expand your customer base . Having a blog in addition to a website is like putting the icing on the cake. In a website you cannot ‘converse’ or interact with your customer base. A blog permits others to leave comments in your blog and you get a link to their blogs. Business blogging is good and encourages employees to feel they are also part of the business. It highly motivates them, to the employer’s advantage.
Things become more personal and thereby yield more favourable results. The step-by-step creation of a blog and its expanded options which provide more useful functions are highlighted. Gradually you are enlightened on the far reaching possibilities of a blog, to the extent of making cash from Google adsense.

He explains in detail all the legalities associated and cautions on the possible criminal acts that one may be lured into. Priya Shah’s article on the decency of blogging language is an eye opener to the indecency possible. The secret to defeating (or minimizing) SPAM in your blogs is to use the tools provided by your blog software and host. Almost half of the book contains valuable information extracted by interviewing other professional and highly successful bloggers.
Very revealing secrets are divulged by the interviewed personnel.
This is mostly a ‘How to’ book which guides one stepwise into all the intricacies and excitement of blogging. We get a picture of how Douglas C.Brown whose company, Atlanta Publishing House, saw success and then reached the verge of bankruptcy. How he regains foothold by using his competitor Amazon as one of his distributors and how by blogging, Atlanta has marketed new realeases and emerged as an unquestionably great establishment is
evidence itself of the success attributed to blogging

It is left to the interested ones to go through this book and decide how successful they have been after employing the techniques explained. Bruce has opened the vista of blogging and detailed the procedure in simple terms. He is an expert in his field and has concentrated on the setting up of a blog with little or no expenditure. The book is worth reading.

I would rate this book 4 out 5.

Where was this book when I was looking to setup my first Blog? Mr. Brown's book is the perfect fit for anyone interested in setting up a Website or Blog. He takes you step by step from where
the term Blog comes from, all the way through making money from your Blog. His words and
Terminology is understandable to all. You do not have to be a computer geek to understand
what he is writing about.

Mr. Brown teaches you that having a Blog can be a great addition to a business website. The
Blog can help create and expand your businesses marketing campaign. He offers ways that help
your business make additional money, increase your websites traffic, driving revenue up, and improving financial posture of an organization.

Another great point that is made, within this book, is the fact that before you even setup a Blog
or begin publishing you need to ask yourself some very important questions. Who will handle the blog?
Who is your target market? What type of content will the Blog include?

See, I told you this book is a must read. Even as an experienced blogger, I have learned so many new
helpful tips.
